I wrote last time about the angels in Moses’ temple and indicated that angels of the Lord dwell in His presence and will always lead us to the true and Living God and not to any other. This is certainly true of angels in the bible. They talk about God, give us His word and can therefore be considered to be prophets (at least in my mind). Peter said that the word spoken by angels was steadfast. Today, I just want to speak about the angels in Solomon’s temple.
The temple that Solomon built was a multi billion dollar edifice (1 Kings 6). It was plastered with gold, an unbelievable site for the modern day person. That temple was the exact replica of Moses’. In the holy of holies, he made the larger replicas of the cherubims in Moses’ tabernacle. Each was 10 cubits or about 118 inches high (1 cubit = 18 inches). The cherubims were made of olive wood and covered with gold. Their wings touched each other centrally and also stretched out to touch the walls of the temple. HE had cherubims carved into the vail, doors of the temple and its furnishings (1 Kings 6; 7: 29, 36; 2 Chron 3: 1-14). Just like Moses’ tabernacle, he placed the ark containing the law under the wings of the cherubims (1 Kings 8: 6-7); This is why the Jews know God as the one who dwells between the cherubims.

What does this mean?

* God is bigger than anything. The angels literally filled the holy of holies. Even the size of Solomon’s replicas cannot begin to explain His greatness.

* Again, God is surrounded by angels. Sometimes in scripture HE even revealed Himself as an angel (I will speak more on this later).

* Those who are beloved by God are beloved by His angels and vice versa.

* Jesus said that the angels of the little ones always behold the face of the heavenly father (Mt 18: 10). He does not mean little ones in terms of few chronological years, but those who become like children in order to enter the kingdom of heaven. This is why scripture says that we should not touch or harm His anointed. This implies that angels will seek to avenge harm done to the Lord’s people. Moses’ enemies discovered this first hand.

* David said that those who dwell in the “secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty… He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler (Ps 91: 1,4). Jesus in Mt 6 said that the secret place is the place of prayer (Mt 6: 6). Those who dwell in the atmosphere of prayer are awarded with special divine protection from His angels (as in under His wings shalt thou trust).

* The earthly tabernacle is a physical place of worship, but the bible also calls the believer the temple of the Lord. We are always surrounded by His angels. David said that “the angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them” (Ps 34: 7).

Blessings until we see again.
